Tallulah Gorge State Park
Georgia State Park · Tallulah Falls, Georgia
A gorge two miles long and around a thousand feet deep, cut by the Tallulah River through quartzite in north-east Georgia, and one of the deepest in the eastern United States. Six waterfalls run through it. A suspension bridge crosses eighty feet above the floor and a staircase of over a thousand metal steps descends to it. Karl Wallenda walked a wire across the gorge in front of a reported thirty thousand people in 1970, and the anchor points are still pointed out. The park is run jointly with Georgia Power, which dammed the river in 1913.
