Tanglewood
Amphitheater · Lenox, Massachusetts
The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937, on a five-hundred-acre estate in the Berkshire hills at Lenox. The Koussevitzky Music Shed is an open-sided hall seating over five thousand, and behind it the Lawn slopes away — you buy a cheap lawn ticket, bring a picnic and a blanket, and listen to one of the world's great orchestras through the open back of the building while the sun goes down over the Stockbridge Bowl. It is one of the most agreeable ways to hear music anywhere.
