Taum Sauk Mountain State Park
Subnational Park · Middle Brook, Missouri
The highest ground in Missouri, at 1,772 feet, in the St. Francois Mountains - which are not mountains in the western sense but are among the oldest exposed rock in North America, Precambrian rhyolite that has been standing above the surrounding country for well over a billion years. The summit itself is a modest clearing with a marker. The reason to come is Mina Sauk Falls, the tallest waterfall in the state at about 132 feet, a mile and a half down the Ozark Trail.
