A Town Of Thermal Spring Pools And A Few Spa And Water Park Resorts In The High Desert Of Hidalgo, A Weekend Soak For People From Mexico City, Queretaro And Hidalgo, At A Smaller Scale Than Tolantongo Or Ixtapan De La Sal. Pools Are Busiest At Weekends And Holidays, With Day Tickets And Cabins · Tecozautla, Hidalgo
Tecozautla is a small town in the high desert of Hidalgo, about 40 km from Tequisquiapan and roughly 80 km from Queretaro city, known for thermal pools and a handful of spa and water-park resorts. The hot water comes up from the ground at around 35-40 C and feeds pools of different depth and size, some with slides and shaded terraces, others with quiet soaking basins. Most places sell day tickets and also rent cabins, and some have camping. The scale is smaller than Tolantongo or Ixtapan de la Sal, so it works as an easy weekend soak for families from Mexico City, Queretaro and Hidalgo. The water often has a mild sulphur smell. It suits relaxed families and groups who want warm water and a lunch. It is worth the trip on a weekday or in cool weather, when a day ticket costs less and the hot water feels best. It is not worth it at weekends and holidays, when the pools are packed, or for travellers who want wild scenery rather than built pools.
