Temple Square

Temple · Salt Lake City, Utah

The ten-acre block at the centre of Salt Lake City that is the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the most visited destination in Utah outside the national parks. The grounds, gardens, Tabernacle and visitor centres are free and open to anyone; the temple itself is not, and never has been. It has been closed for a seismic retrofit since 2019 and is expected to reopen in 2027 — but even then, entry is restricted to church members holding a temple recommend.

50 North Temple Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84150, United States

THE GROUNDS, GARDENS, TABERNACLE, CONFERENCE CENTER AND VISITOR CENTRES ARE FREE AND OPEN DAILY to visitors of any faith, with free guided tours by missionary volunteers and free organ recitals on a published schedule. ⚠ THE SALT LAKE TEMPLE ITSELF CANNOT BE ENTERED BY NON-MEMBERS — a temple recommend is required and there are no public tours inside. This is permanent and is not a consequence of the renovation. ⚠ THE TEMPLE HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR A SEISMIC RETROFIT SINCE 2019 and is expected to reopen in 2027, with a PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE ANNOUNCED FOR 5 APRIL TO 1 OCTOBER 2027 — the one window in which anyone may go inside. Much of the square has been an active construction site throughout, with changing pedestrian routes; check what is currently open before travelling. ⚠ GENERAL CONFERENCE WEEKENDS in April and October fill downtown Salt Lake City completely.
