Tennessee Aquarium
Aquarium · Chattanooga, Tennessee
The largest freshwater aquarium in the world, opened on the Chattanooga riverfront in 1992 as the anchor of a deliberate campaign to rescue a city that had been named the most polluted in America two decades earlier. It worked, and the aquarium is still the reason most visitors come to Chattanooga. Two separate buildings sit side by side — River Journey, which follows a drop of water from the Appalachian highlands to the Gulf, and Ocean Journey, which is saltwater.
1 Broad Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37402, United States
