Tettegouche State Park
Minnesota State Park · Silver Bay, Minnesota
The most varied of the North Shore parks — nine thousand acres running from Lake Superior up into the Sawtooth Mountains, holding Palisade Head, a sheer rhyolite cliff you can drive to the top of and look two hundred feet straight down at the lake, and the High Falls of the Baptism River, the tallest waterfall entirely inside Minnesota. Shovel Point gives the view back along the cliffs that appears on most photographs of this coast. Inland there are four wilderness lakes and a 1910 log camp reachable only on foot.
5702 Highway 61, Silver Bay, Minnesota, 55614, United States
Open daily year round, generally 8 AM to 10 PM, with a Minnesota state park vehicle permit required. The visitor centre keeps seasonal hours. Palisade Head is a separate entrance off Highway 61 about a mile south of the main park, reached by a narrow steep road unsuitable for large vehicles, and that road closes for the winter. Climbing routes close seasonally for nesting peregrine falcons.
