Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial
National Memorial · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
A small brick boarding-house room in Society Hill where Tadeusz Kosciuszko lodged over the winter of 1797 and 1798, and THE SMALLEST UNIT IN THE ENTIRE NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM. Kosciuszko engineered the fortifications at Saratoga and West Point for the Continental Army, went home to lead an uprising against Russian and Prussian partition, was imprisoned, and returned to Philadelphia a celebrity — Jefferson visited him in this room. He left a will freeing and educating enslaved people with his American assets, which was never honoured.
301 Pine Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19106, United States
FREE. SEASONAL AND VERY LIMITED — generally open weekends only, from roughly April to October, on a short daily schedule, and closed entirely for much of the year. This is the smallest NPS unit in the country and its hours reflect that. Always verify on nps.gov before travelling.
