The Bund

Historic Waterfront; The Bund Historic Building Complex Is A Major Historical And Cultural Site Protected At The National Level · Shanghai, Shanghai

Shanghai's riverfront face-off: a 1.5-kilometre elevated promenade along the Huangpu River where the granite banks and trading houses of the 1920s concession era stand shoulder to shoulder, staring across the water at the Pudong skyline of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao, the World Financial Centre and Shanghai Tower. Free, open at all hours, and the single image most of the world holds of the city. The waterfront grew as the heart of foreign trade after Shanghai opened as a treaty port in 1843, and its landmark buildings span Gothic, Neoclassical and Art Deco, from the Customs House clock tower to the Peace Hotel. Both banks light up in the evening.

Zhongshan East 1st Road, Shanghai, Shanghai, China
