The Hamptons
Beach Town · Southampton, New York
The chain of villages along the South Fork of Long Island, from Westhampton east to Montauk — a working farming and whaling coast that became New York City's summer address in the nineteenth century and never gave it back. It is roughly forty miles end to end, the ocean beaches are among the best on the eastern seaboard, and in July and August the population of some villages multiplies by a factor of ten.
76 Main Street, Southampton, New York, 11968, United States
An open region — free, no gate, no hours. ⚠ THE OPERATIVE RESTRICTION IS BEACH PARKING: from roughly mid-May to mid-September almost every ocean beach car park requires a seasonal permit issued by the village or town, and non-resident permits are scarce and expensive. WALKING OR CYCLING ONTO THE BEACH IS FREE. Shops, restaurants and museums keep their own hours and MANY CLOSE OR REDUCE FROM NOVEMBER TO APRIL. ⚠ Permit rules differ village by village — check the specific one.
