The Lost Sea Adventure

A cave near Sweetwater holding the largest underground lake in the United States — four and a half acres of visible water at the bottom of Craighead Caverns, with divers having mapped a great deal more beyond it and never having found the end. The tour walks three-quarters of a mile down a wide sloping passage and finishes on glass-bottomed boats out onto the lake. The dry passages above hold Cherokee artefacts, Confederate saltpetre workings and one of the largest concentrations anywhere of anthodites, the rare crystal formations called cave flowers.

Open daily year round on continuous guided tours, generally from mid-morning to late afternoon with extended summer hours. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Wild tours and cave camping by advance booking only.
