The Menil Collection
Art Museum · Houston, Texas
The private collection John and Dominique de Menil spent a lifetime assembling, given to Houston and housed since 1987 in Renzo Piano's first American museum — a low grey building with a light-filtering roof, set among bungalows on a thirty-acre campus in Montrose. Admission has been free every day it has opened, for nearly forty years. The Surrealism holdings and the African and Oceanic collections are rated among the finest in the country.
