The Morgan Library and Museum
Specialty Museum · New York, New York
J. Pierpont Morgan's private library of 1906 on Madison Avenue, built by Charles McKim beside Morgan's house to hold a collection that included three GUTENBERG BIBLES, and opened to the public in 1924 by his son. The original library room — East Room, walls of bookcases three tiers high under a painted ceiling — is one of the most extraordinary interiors in America, and a 2006 Renzo Piano pavilion knitted the campus together.
