The Orange Show Monument
Modern Monument · Houston, Texas
A folk art environment in east Houston built single-handedly over twenty-odd years by Jeff McKissack, a postman who wanted to make a monument to the orange — a maze of concrete, tile, tractor seats, wagon wheels and salvaged metal, arranged into arenas, balconies and walkways. It is one of the most significant works of visionary folk art in the United States, and it exists because one man would not stop building.
2402 Munger Street, Houston, Texas, 77023, United States
⚠ OPENING DAYS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them, and small visionary-art sites like this typically open limited days, often weekends only and seasonally. CONFIRM AT orangeshow.org BEFORE DRIVING OUT. The same organisation operates the Beer Can House. ⚠ Smither Park next door is free and worth the extra half hour.
