The Pentagon Memorial
Memorial · Arlington, Virginia
One hundred and eighty-four cantilevered benches on the west lawn of the Pentagon, one for each person killed there and aboard American Airlines Flight 77 on 11 September 2001. Each bench stands over a lit pool of water and is set on an age line running from the youngest victim, who was three, to the oldest, who was seventy-one — and each is turned so that you read the name looking toward the building if the person died inside it, and looking toward the sky if they died on the aircraft.
1 Rotary Road, Arlington, Virginia, 22202, United States
Open 24 hours a day, every day. Free. Closed to the public for part of 11 September for the annual observance. The Pentagon building tour is separate and must be booked well in advance.
