The RiverFront, Omaha

Downtown Riverfront Park System (Redeveloped And Reopened In The Early 2020s Hedge Dates) With The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge To Iowa · Omaha, Nebraska

The RiverFront is the name for downtown Omaha's chain of three connected parks running from the edge of the Old Market to the Missouri River: Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park and Lewis and Clark Landing. All three were rebuilt in a large, largely privately funded redevelopment and reopened in stages in the early 2020s, turning an old sunken lagoon and underused lawns into a busy, free city park. Gene Leahy Mall has a big playground with tall slides, a sculpture garden, lawns and a performance pavilion, with skating in winter. Heartland of America Park has water, gardens and a fountain, and Lewis and Clark Landing runs along the river itself. At the north end, the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, a long white S-shaped cable-stayed footbridge, crosses the Missouri to Council Bluffs, Iowa, with a marker in the middle where you can stand in two states at once. It is a good city park rather than a destination: free, new and lively, best on a mild evening with dinner in the Old Market.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the parks and paths are open daily from early morning until late evening, roughly 6 am to 11 pm, with lighting after dark; the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge keeps similar hours and has closed at night at times. Toilets, skating and any concessions keep shorter, seasonal hours. The traps that ruin a day are setting off for the bridge too late and walking back in the dark, arriving on a College World Series or arena night with no parking, finding riverside paths closed after floods, and expecting skating on a mild winter day. Confirm current times before relying on them.
