The Rookery
Skyscraper · Chicago, Illinois
An 1888 office building by Burnham and Root on LaSalle Street, and one of the oldest standing high-rises in Chicago — a transitional structure with masonry outer walls and an iron frame inside, built as the form was being invented. Its glory is the light court: a glass-roofed atrium that Frank Lloyd Wright was brought back in 1905 to remodel in white marble and gold leaf. The lobby is a working office entrance and it is free to walk into.
209 South LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60604, United States
Light court lobby free on weekday business hours; generally closed at weekends. Frank Lloyd Wright Trust guided tours to the upper levels are ticketed and booked ahead.
