The Strong National Museum of Play

Childrens Museum · Rochester, New York

The only collections-based museum in the world devoted entirely to play, built around Margaret Woodbury Strong's vast personal hoard of dolls and Victorian objects and opened in Rochester in 1982. It holds the World Video Game Hall of Fame and the National Toy Hall of Fame, and a 2023 expansion added the Neighborhood of Play — which makes it simultaneously a serious research institution and the best building in America to take a six-year-old to.
