The Venetian and The Palazzo
Casino Resort On The Las Vegas Strip The Venetian (1999) And The Palazzo (2007); Grand Canal Shoppes And Gondola Rides · Las Vegas, Nevada
The Venetian and The Palazzo are a pair of connected all-suite casino resorts on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip, built around a full-scale fantasy of Venice. The Venetian opened in 1999 on the site of the old Sands hotel, and The Palazzo, a taller sister tower, followed in 2007; together they are often described as one of the biggest hotels in the world by room count. For visitors who are not staying, the main draw costs nothing to walk: an indoor Grand Canal under a painted sky where singing gondoliers pole boats past shopfronts, an outdoor lagoon on the Strip with replicas of the Rialto Bridge, the Doge's Palace and the Campanile bell tower, and a mock St Mark's Square where costumed singers and living statues work the crowd. Around that sit the Grand Canal Shoppes, celebrity-chef restaurants, theatres, a very large casino and the covered walkway to Sphere. It is a strong half-day stop and a famous resort, but it is a copy of Venice built for shopping and gambling, the gondola rides are short and paid, and the walks between its parts are long.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the casino and hotel are open 24 hours a day, every day; the indoor canal and public walkways are always open; the Grand Canal Shoppes usually open around 10 am and close around 11 pm, later on weekends; gondola rides usually run from late morning to late evening, with the outdoor lagoon closed in bad weather or high wind; the performers appear on a loose daytime and evening schedule; restaurants and shows keep their own hours. The traps that ruin a day are turning up at 7 pm on a Saturday for a gondola and finding the evening sold out, walking the Strip front at 2 pm in July, missing a Sphere show because the walk took longer than expected, and not reading the resort fee. Confirm current times before relying on them.
