The Walmart Museum
A Company Museum On The Bentonville Town Square, In And Beside Sam Walton'S Original 1950 Walton'S 5 10 Variety Store, Telling The History Of The Company That Grew Out Of It. · Bentonville, Arkansas
Sam Walton opened a variety store on the Bentonville square in 1950 and the company that grew out of it became the largest retailer on earth. The museum is in and beside that original building: a restored storefront, galleries on the company's growth, Walton's office kept as he left it, and his much-photographed 1979 pickup truck. It is free. Attached is a working soda fountain that serves ice cream to a queue of Bentonville families and tourists all afternoon. Whatever you think of the company, the museum is a well-made piece of American business history sitting on a town square that the same money has transformed.
