This Is the Place Heritage Park
Historic Site · Salt Lake City, Utah
A living history park at the mouth of Emigration Canyon, on the spot where Brigham Young, ill with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, first looked out over the Salt Lake Valley on 24 July 1847 and said "It is enough. This is the right place. Drive on." The monument marks it and a heritage village fills the ground below — original pioneer homes and cabins moved here, alongside fifteen replica structures built in the 1990s, a blacksmith shop and a Social Hall replica, worked as a living museum.

⚠ ADMISSION AND HOURS WERE NOT VERIFIED FROM THE PARK'S OWN PAGE FOR THIS ROW — check thisistheplace.org before travelling. Expect a modest admission to the worked heritage village with reductions for children and seniors, while the This Is the Place Monument and the grounds around it are generally free to approach. ⚠ IT IS A LIVING HISTORY MUSEUM AND WHAT IS STAFFED VARIES BY DAY AND SEASON — ask at the entrance which trades are being worked, because the difference between a staffed blacksmith and an empty building is the whole visit, and the winter programme is considerably thinner than the summer one. ⚠ THE WEEK OF 24 JULY IS PIONEER DAY IN UTAH and the park programmes heavily around it, with the fullest interpretation and the largest crowds of the year. The site is at the mouth of Emigration Canyon and slopes; a shuttle operates around the village.
