Tillamook Air Museum
Specialty Museum · Tillamook, Oregon
An aviation museum in Hangar B, a Second World War blimp hangar south of Tillamook that is the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world. The Navy built it in 1943 to house K-class airships patrolling for submarines off the Oregon coast, and it went up in wood because steel was needed elsewhere. Its twin, Hangar A, burned down in 1992. What survives is a single room seven acres in extent with aircraft parked inside it, and the building is decisively more impressive than anything in it.
6030 Hangar Road, Tillamook, Oregon, 97141, United States
Open most days with seasonal variation, and admission is charged at the door with no booking needed. ⚠ THE OPENING SCHEDULE HAS CHANGED MORE THAN ONCE AND THE MUSEUM DOES NOT OPEN EVERY DAY IN EVERY SEASON - check before travelling. The museum is entirely indoors and is therefore one of the most reliable wet-weather options on the north Oregon coast, which also makes it busiest on the worst days. The hangar is unheated and can be very cold in winter.
