Times Square

Public Square · New York, New York

The bowtie of blocks where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue between 42nd and 47th Streets, named in 1904 when The New York Times moved into the tower at its southern point. It is the only place in the city where the zoning REQUIRES buildings to carry illuminated signage — the lights are not decoration but a legal obligation, which is why the district looks the way it does and nowhere else does.

Broadway at Seventh Avenue, New York, New York, 10036, United States

Open permanently — it is a public street with no gate and no hours. The signage runs 24 hours. The TKTS booth at Duffy Square, the visitor facilities and the surrounding theatres keep their own hours.
