Tippecanoe Battlefield

Battlefield · Battle Ground, Indiana

The ground north of Lafayette where William Henry Harrison's force was attacked before dawn on 7 November 1811 by warriors from Prophetstown, the pan-tribal settlement founded by Tenskwatawa and his brother Tecumseh. Harrison held the field and burned Prophetstown the next day, and the episode became the basis of his 1840 presidential campaign slogan. An 85-foot marble obelisk of 1908 stands on the site, with a museum beside it, and the ground is a National Historic Landmark.

200 Battle Ground Avenue, Battle Ground, Indiana, 47920, United States

Battlefield grounds and the obelisk open daily and free. The museum keeps limited hours, closed on some days and over parts of the winter — check before travelling if the museum is the reason for the trip.
