Titanic Belfast

A Shiny Museum In The Shape Of Four Bows On The Shipyard Where The Titanic Was Built, Opened In 2012 On The 100th Anniversary Of Her Sinking. Nine Galleries Take Visitors Through Belfast'S Shipbuilding, The Ship'S Construction, Her Maiden Voyage And The Wreck, With A Ride Through The Shipyard. Next To The Slipways, The Nomadic And The Old Harland And Wolff Drawing Offices · Belfast, Northern Ireland

Titanic Belfast is a large museum on the Belfast docks, built on the very slipways where the Titanic was put together by the shipbuilders Harland and Wolff. It opened in 2012, a century after the sinking, and its silver-clad building rises like four ship bows. Nine galleries tell the story in order: Belfast as a boomtown, the yard, the building of the ship, her launch, the maiden voyage, the sinking, the inquiries and the discovery of the wreck, with a ride through a model shipyard and a glass floor over the dive footage. Outside you can walk the slipways, see the drawing offices where the hull was designed, and board the SS Nomadic, the last White Star tender. It is large, modern and well made, but it is crowded in school holidays and the waterfront is windy and cold. Some feelings about the story remain in Belfast, where the ship was a source of pride, and the sinking is treated with respect.

The museum is open daily for most of the year, usually from morning to early evening, with last entry roughly 1.5-2 hours before closing because the visit takes time. Hours are longer in summer and shorter in winter. It closes on Christmas Day and sometimes for private events, so check the calendar. The SS Nomadic and the drawing offices have their own opening times and may be closed in winter or on some days. The slipways, the waterfront paths and the Titanic Memorial Garden near the City Hall are FREE and open at all hours. The galleries and the shipyard ride need a ticket and are CLOSED outside opening hours. Confirm everything near your date.
