Tlos
One Of The Oldest And Largest Cities Of Ancient Lycia, Built On A Rock Crag With Cliff Cut Tombs, A Roman Theatre, A Stadium And Baths And An Ottoman Castle At The Summit. A Quiet Site With Sweeping Views Of The Valley, On The Same Route As Saklikent Gorge And Xanthos · Seydikemer, Mugla
Tlos is a ruined hill city in the Xanthos valley of Lycia, in Mugla province, and it is counted among the oldest and most important Lycian settlements, with a history that stretches back to the Bronze Age (confirm). The town occupies a steep rock crag that rises above fields and orchards, and the first thing most visitors see is a face of cliff dotted with Lycian rock tombs cut to look like wooden houses. Higher up are a theatre, a stadium, the remains of Roman baths and a ruined Ottoman fortress on the summit, which gives a wide view of the valley and the mountains on the far side. The site is quiet, large and mostly unshaded, with paths of loose stone and steps worn smooth, and it rewards sturdy shoes and a slow pace. Many people combine it with Saklikent Gorge and Xanthos in a single day by car from Fethiye or Kalkan. There are few facilities beyond a small ticket office and simple cafes at the foot, so the ruins feel remote and unhurried, especially early or late in the day.

The site is normally open daily, with longer hours in summer, often from about 08:00 or 09:00 until about 19:00 or sunset, and shorter days from late autumn to early spring - confirm hours and any closed day with the local museum authority. The ticket office sits at the entrance and may close earlier than the gate. Cafes and small restaurants near the entrance follow the tourist season and are often shut in winter. The climb is exposed, so early opening time and the last hour before closing are the most comfortable. Heavy rain can make the steep paths slippery and the site may close in bad weather (confirm).
