Tokat Museum is the main museum of the green Black Sea hinterland city of Tokat, about 100 km south of Samsun, and its collection is shown in two historic buildings in the centre of town: the Gok Medrese, a Seljuk school of the 13th century with a blue-tiled portal, and the Sulusokak Bedesten, a covered Ottoman market of the 15th century (confirm which rooms are in which building). The rooms hold finds from Tokat province, from Hittite and Roman objects to Seljuk and Ottoman coins, carved wood and decorated tiles, along with local life displays and the story of yazma, the hand block-printed cloth for which Tokat is known. The buildings are as interesting as the contents, with domes, courtyards and long arcades. The city around them is known for its kebab, its Ottoman houses and its hilltop castle. A visit takes one to two hours, and the museum is usually closed on one weekday (confirm the day).
