Toketee Falls

Waterfall · Idleyld Park, Oregon

A two-tier waterfall on the North Umpqua River where it drops through a wall of columnar basalt, the upper tier falling about 28 ft into a pool and the lower about 85 ft down the face of the columns. The name is a Chinook Jargon word meaning pretty or graceful. The half-mile trail to the viewing platform passes a wooden stave pipeline twelve feet across that carries water to a power station downstream, which is an oddity in its own right.

Toketee Falls Trail, Idleyld Park, Oregon, 97433, United States

The trail is open daily, dawn to dusk, and a Northwest Forest Pass or day-use fee applies at the trailhead. The falls are fed by a regulated river, so flow is steadier through the year than most Oregon waterfalls, though heaviest in spring. ⚠ THE TRAIL INVOLVES ABOUT 200 STEPS AND PERMANENTLY WET, SLIPPERY ROCK, and can be icy in winter. There is no mobile signal at the trailhead. OR-138 east of here closes seasonally over the pass, and the nearest fuel and food are a long drive in either direction.
