Hot And Flat, Used Mainly By Los Mochis Families And Travellers Heading To Baja California Sur Or The Copper Canyon Train · Ahome, Sinaloa
Topolobampo is a port town on the Bahia de Ohuira, a large shallow bay in northern Sinaloa, about 25 km from Los Mochis. It is a working fishing and shipping town, and also the mainland terminal of the La Paz ferry, which makes it the point where many people cross to Baja California Sur or catch the Copper Canyon train from Los Mochis. The bay has sandbars, mangroves and islands, and boat trips go out to watch dolphins and to reach island beaches such as Isla del Farallon. Playa Las Glorias is the main beach, flat and warm in the shallows, with palapas selling fish and shrimp. Summers are very hot, often above 38 C. It suits travellers passing through, birdwatchers, families from Los Mochis and fish eaters, and it is worth a half-day for a boat trip and a meal. It is not worth a long stay, or a trip for a resort beach or clear water. Weekdays are quietest. Check current Sinaloa travel advice before you go and drive by day.
