Tracy Aviary

Bird Park · Salt Lake City, Utah

Eight acres of birds inside Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, founded in 1938 when a local banker, Russell Lord Tracy, gave his private collection to the city and its children. It holds roughly four hundred birds of about a hundred and thirty-five species — swans, flamingos, eagles, vultures and Victoria crowned pigeons among them — and it is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Its own sources describe it as one of only two free-standing aviaries in the nation.

⚠ ADMISSION AND HOURS WERE NOT VERIFIED FROM THE AVIARY'S OWN PAGE FOR THIS ROW — check tracyaviary.org before travelling. Expect a modest admission with reductions for children and seniors, and free entry for members. ⚠ THE AVIARY AND LIBERTY PARK ARE DIFFERENT THINGS: the park around it is free public parkland open at all hours, while the aviary inside it is ticketed and keeps its own opening times. Keeper talks, feeds and free-flight demonstrations run to a posted daily schedule that changes seasonally — ask at the entrance on arrival, because on eight acres it is easy to be at the wrong end of the site when one starts. In cold weather some species are given indoor access and may not be visible. Parking is in and around Liberty Park.
