Tribune Tower
Modern Architecture · Chicago, Illinois
The neo-Gothic tower on North Michigan Avenue that won a 1922 international competition the Chicago Tribune ran for "the most beautiful office building in the world", drawing 260 entries from 23 countries. Embedded in its lower walls are more than 150 fragments the paper's correspondents brought back from famous buildings — the Parthenon, the Great Wall, Notre-Dame, the Taj Mahal — and they are at eye level on a public pavement.
