Troy Museum

A Museum Designed To Look Like A Stack Of Archaeological Layers, With Finds From The Nine Levels Of Troy, Including Jewellery, Pottery And Hellenistic And Roman Statues, With Strong Labelling That Explains The Trojan War Legend. An Essential Companion To The Troy Ruins, With A Ticket Separate From The Site · Tevfikiye, Canakkale

The Troy Museum stands at the village of Tevfikiye, about 30 km south-west of Canakkale on the Biga peninsula, a short walk from the archaeological site of Troy (confirm). The building is designed as a stack of archaeological layers, a low dark box with a ramp that leads visitors through the nine settlements of Troy from the early Bronze Age to the Byzantine period. Inside are pottery, tools, jewellery, weapons, Hellenistic and Roman statues and reliefs, with strong labels that separate the real city from the legend of the Iliad and the Trojan War. The museum opened in 2018 and has won attention among European museums (confirm). The ticket is separate from the one for the ruins, and many visitors take the museum first to learn the layers before walking the walls. Canakkale has frequent dolmus minibuses to the village. Allow about two hours for the museum, and confirm hours, prices and transport.

The museum is a ticketed state museum, normally open daily with longer hours from spring to autumn (roughly 08:30 to 19:00 or later in high summer) and shorter winter hours, and a last entry about 30 to 60 minutes before closing (confirm). The cafe, the shop and the audio guide desk may keep their own times, and the closed day, if any, should be confirmed. Tour groups from Canakkale and Gallipoli day trips arrive from late morning, so the first hour after opening and the last hour before closing are the quietest. Public holidays and cruise days can change the crowd. Confirm hours on the day before you go.
