Tryon Palace

Historic House · New Bern, North Carolina

A faithful reconstruction of the 1770 governor's residence designed by John Hawks - the official home and offices of the British governors of North Carolina until the Revolution, and the colony's first permanent capitol. The original burned in 1798 and the building was rebuilt on its foundations, opening in 1959, using Hawks's surviving drawings. It sits in fourteen acres of gardens in New Bern, with a cluster of genuine historic houses and a modern history centre alongside.

529 South Front Street, New Bern, North Carolina, 28562, United States

Generally 9 AM to 5 PM Tuesday to Saturday with reduced Sunday hours; CLOSED MONDAYS and major holidays, with a thinner winter schedule.
