Tuacahn Center for the Arts

Amphitheater · Ivins, Utah

A 1,920-seat outdoor amphitheatre at the mouth of Padre Canyon near Ivins, opened in April 1995, where the back of the stage is left open so that the red rock cliffs stand behind every production. It stages Broadway musicals in rotating repertory through a spring-to-autumn season, and its technical rig runs to pyrotechnics, live animals and a flood of some 55,000 gallons of water that comes down from the back of the canyon and across the stage toward the audience. There is also a 328-seat indoor theatre, the Hafen.

1100 Tuacahn Drive, Ivins, Utah, 84738, United States

An open-air amphitheatre seating 1,920, with a season running roughly spring to autumn in ROTATING REPERTORY — two or three Broadway musicals alternating rather than one long run, so ⚠ CHECK WHICH PRODUCTION IS ON YOUR DATE and buy for the title, not just the night. Popular shows and Saturday nights sell out. There is no roof: the outdoor season is seasonal by necessity, while the 328-seat indoor Hafen Theater runs on its own schedule. ⚠ DRESS FOR A DESERT NIGHT — it can be around 100°F at curtain-up and genuinely cold by the interval, which is the most common complaint here. ⚠ SOME PRODUCTIONS USE A WATER EFFECT OF AROUND 55,000 GALLONS across the stage toward the audience, and the front rows are a splash zone — ask when booking. Pyrotechnics and live animals also feature. ⚠ THIS IS NOT THE UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, which is at Cedar City about 90 minutes away.
