Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area

River Parks Authority Urban Wilderness Area, Tulsa · Tulsa, Oklahoma

More than 750 acres of oak forest, sandstone outcrops and steep ravines on the west bank of the Arkansas River in Tulsa, left wild inside the city and managed by the River Parks Authority. Roughly 45 miles of marked unpaved trails climb and drop through blackjack oak and past old quarry scars, used by runners, mountain bikers, hikers and dog walkers, with the Yellow, Blue, Red and Pink routes marked and colour-coded and the Red loop the hardest. From the bluffs there are views over the river to downtown Tulsa, and the ridge is a good place to watch spring and autumn bird migration. There are no entry fees and no formal facilities beyond car parks and portable restrooms, and the trails turn to slick red clay after rain, when riders are asked to stay off.
