Turtle River State Park
Subnational Park · Arvilla, North Dakota
Seven hundred and seventy-five acres along the Turtle River west of Grand Forks, in a wooded valley cut into the flattest farmland in North America. The Red River valley floor is the bed of glacial Lake Agassiz and it is almost perfectly level for a hundred miles in every direction, which makes a shaded river valley with hills in it a genuine local treasure. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and several of their stone and timber structures are still in use.
3084 Park Avenue, Arvilla, North Dakota, 58214, United States
Open year round with a per-vehicle North Dakota state park entry fee. The campground, cabins and group lodge are seasonal and reservable through the state park system, with the lodge and cabins going early for summer weekends. Trails are open all year and are groomed for cross-country skiing in winter, when the sledding hill is one of the busiest facilities in the park. The park is 22 miles west of Grand Forks; the nearest full services are there rather than in Arvilla.
