Tweetsie Railroad
Theme Park · Blowing Rock, North Carolina
A Wild West theme park between Boone and Blowing Rock built around two genuine narrow-gauge steam locomotives, one of which - number 12 - ran on the original East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad, the line nicknamed Tweetsie for its whistle. The three-mile ride around the mountain is the centrepiece, complete with a staged train robbery. It opened in 1957 and it is unashamedly aimed at families with young children.
