Uffizi Gallery
Museo Statale Autonomo Del Ministero Della Cultura; Within The UNESCO Historic Centre Of Florence (1982) · Florence, Tuscany
The Medici family's painting collection, hung in the offices Giorgio Vasari built for Cosimo I between 1560 and 1581 and opened to the public in 1769, which makes it one of the oldest museums in the world and the densest gathering of Italian Renaissance painting anywhere. Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera hang facing each other in rooms reinstalled in 2026; Leonardo's Annunciation, Michelangelo's Doni Tondo, Piero della Francesca's Urbino duke and duchess, Titian's Venus of Urbino and two rooms of Caravaggio follow on two long floors of about a hundred rooms above the Arno. The Vasari Corridor, the Medici's private kilometre-long passage over the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace, reopened in December 2024 as a timed add-on. Tickets are a flat 25 euros at the door or 29 online, nominative with an ID check, and morning slots in summer go weeks ahead; a cheaper afternoon ticket from 16:00 was introduced in 2026. Closed every Monday. Nothing in Florence rewards an 8:15 booking more than this building does.
