Universal Studios Japan
Opened 2001; Home Of Super Nintendo World (2021) And The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter (2014) · Osaka, Osaka
A large Hollywood-themed park on reclaimed land in Konohana Ward on Osaka Bay, opened in 2001 and now one of the busiest theme parks in the world, around twelve minutes by train from Osaka station. Its biggest draw is Super Nintendo World, opened in 2021, a walk-in Mushroom Kingdom of pipes, blocks and Bowser's Castle where Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge uses augmented reality goggles, and where the Donkey Kong Country area added a runaway mine-cart coaster at the end of 2024. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, opened in 2014, recreates Hogsmeade under Hogwarts castle. Beyond those, the park has thrill coasters such as the prone Flying Dinosaur and Hollywood Dream, Jurassic Park and Jaws boat rides, Minion Park, and seasonal events that change every few months, with Halloween Horror Nights, when zombies fill the streets after dark, the most famous. Tickets are dated and priced by demand, the paid Express Pass is often essential, and the Universal CityWalk street of shops, restaurants and hotels leads from the station to the gate.
2-1-33 Sakurajima, Konohana Ward, Osaka, Osaka, 554-0031, Japan
NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the park opens around 8 or 9 am and closes around 8 or 9 pm, every day, with hours varying by date and published ahead; gates often open earlier than stated. Entry to Super Nintendo World may need a timed entry ticket all day. Traps: timed entry tickets and Express Passes sell out early; the Flying Dinosaur and some rides close in wind or rain; Halloween Horror Nights changes the evening crowd; typhoons can close the park. Confirm hours and tickets before relying on them.
