Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River

National Scenic And Recreational River · Beach Lake, Pennsylvania

Seventy-three miles of the Delaware forming the border between Pennsylvania and New York, protected in 1978 as one of the least developed long river corridors in the north-east. Almost all the land along it is privately owned and the National Park Service manages the water rather than the banks, which is why it feels less like a park than a working valley with a very good river running through it. It carries the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United States, built by John Roebling thirty-five years before the Brooklyn Bridge.

274 River Road, Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, 18405, United States

The river and its access points are open year round, dawn to dusk. Outfitters and liveries operate roughly May to September. The Zane Grey Museum and the Roebling Bridge visitor contact station keep short seasonal hours, mainly summer weekends. Eagle-viewing season runs roughly December to March.
