USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park
National Historic Landmark · Mobile, Alabama
A South Dakota-class battleship moored in Mobile Bay off the causeway, saved from the scrapyard in 1964 by a statewide campaign that Alabama schoolchildren funded with collected coins. She earned nine battle stars in the Pacific and never lost a crewman to enemy fire. Alongside her lies USS Drum, the oldest surviving American submarine of the Second World War, and an aircraft pavilion holds a B-52 and an A-12 Blackbird — one of very few anywhere. You go through all of it yourself, at your own pace, on colour-coded routes.
2703 Battleship Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, 36603, United States
Open daily except Christmas Day, generally 8 AM - 5 PM with extended summer hours; last admission is well before closing because the routes take hours. Parking charged separately per vehicle. The ship is not air-conditioned.
