USS Lexington Museum on the Bay
Specialty Museum · Corpus Christi, Texas
An Essex-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1943, moored on Corpus Christi's North Beach and open across sixteen decks with more than twenty aircraft on the flight and hangar decks. The Japanese reported her sunk four separate times and she kept reappearing, which earned her the nickname the Blue Ghost — and she is lit blue at night in the harbour because of it. She is a National Historic Landmark and opened to the public here in November 1992.
