USS Slater

Historic Site · Albany, New York

⚠ THE LAST DESTROYER ESCORT AFLOAT IN AMERICA — a Cannon-class DE of 1944, one of 563 built to escort Atlantic convoys against U-boats, and the only one of them still floating in the United States. She was transferred to Greece in 1951, served as the HELLENIC NAVY'S AETOS until 1991, and was brought back to Albany in 1993 and restored to her 1945 configuration by volunteers.

141 Broadway, Albany, New York, 12202, United States

⚠⚠ CHECK THE SEASON AND THE CURRENT BERTH BEFORE TRAVELLING. The Slater has historically operated on a SEASONAL SCHEDULE, roughly APRIL TO NOVEMBER, and HAS MOVED ACROSS THE RIVER TO WINTER MOORINGS outside it — a winter visit can find an empty dock. ⚠ THE SHIP IS GUIDED-TOUR-ONLY and the tour goes below decks by STEEP LADDERS AND THROUGH WATERTIGHT DOORS. ⚠ CHECK FOR VETERAN AND SERVING MILITARY RATES. Overnight encampment programmes for groups book well ahead. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED — confirm on ussslater.org.
