Valle Nevado Ski Resort
The Largest Ski Resort Near Santiago, Linked With La Parva And El Colorado In The Tres Valles Area, About An Hour And A Half From The Capital · Lo Barnechea, Santiago Metropolitan
Valle Nevado is the largest ski resort near Santiago, a purpose-built village of hotels and apartments at around 3,000 metres in the Andes, linked by lifts and off-piste routes to the neighbouring resorts of La Parva and El Colorado to form the Tres Valles area, one of the largest skiable domains in South America. The terrain is wide, open and above the treeline, with long groomed runs, big off-piste bowls and, on clear days, views across the high Andes to the summits of the central range. The appeal is access: the resort is about an hour and a half from central Santiago, which makes it possible to ski in the morning and dine in the city at night, and it is popular with Brazilians and with northern hemisphere skiers training in their summer. The road up is famous for its many hairpin bends, has timed one-way traffic in parts of the day, and can need chains. It is expensive, busy on weekends and in the July holidays, and at altitude that some visitors feel.
