Varendra Research Museum
History Museum · Rajshahi, Rajshahi
The oldest museum in Bangladesh: founded 1910 in Rajshahi by the Varendra Research Society - local zamindars and scholars, the Ray family of Dighapatia foremost - to keep northern Bengal's antiquities in northern Bengal, and run since 1964 by Rajshahi University. Its Pala-Sena stone sculpture collection is the finest outside Dhaka, drawn from the very sites this database seeds (Paharpur and the Varendra mound country), alongside Indus-era pieces, Arabic and Sanskrit inscriptions, manuscripts and coins, all in a graceful purpose-built Indo-Saracenic house. For anyone doing the northern archaeology circuit, this is the interpretive key.

Recalled as keeping university-museum hours, roughly 10 AM to 5 PM, with a weekly closed day on the UNIVERSITY pattern (possibly Friday) rather than the DoA's - UNVERIFIED for 2026, and possibly a DIFFERENT day from Puthia and Paharpur, so verify both patterns before building the northern circuit around them. Ramadan hours shift.
