Venetian Pool

Historic Site · Coral Gables, Florida

A coral rock quarry that supplied the stone for Coral Gables and was then turned, in 1923, into a public swimming pool with waterfalls, caves, bridges and loggias built into the quarry walls. It is the only swimming pool in the United States listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it holds around 820,000 gallons, and the water comes straight up out of the aquifer.
