Vermont Teddy Bear Factory

Specialty Museum · Shelburne, Vermont

A factory on Shelburne Road that makes teddy bears and lets you watch, which is a smaller proposition than the two great Shelburne destinations a kilometre up the same road and does not pretend otherwise. The company built a national business on posting bears to people as gifts, and the name is recognised a long way outside Vermont on that basis alone. The tour takes half an hour, goes through the workshop where the bears are cut, stuffed and stitched, and is pitched squarely at children - who get a great deal more out of it than the adults with them, which is the honest summary of the place.

6655 Shelburne Road, Shelburne, Vermont, 05482, United States

Open DAILY, 10am to 4pm, YEAR ROUND - ⚠ CLOSED ONLY ON EASTER, THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S DAY, which makes it one of very few dependable all-weather, all-season stops in this folder. Free parking on site. ⚠ THE FACTORY TOUR IS A SEPARATE TICKET, runs about THIRTY MINUTES to a published daily schedule, and TICKETS CAN BE BOUGHT ONLINE UP TO AN HOUR BEFORE - buy ahead on school holidays and wet summer days, when tours fill. ⚠ THE SHOP, THE GROUNDS, THE PICNIC AREA AND THE PLAY AREA ARE FREE AND NEED NO TICKET, so a visit without the tour is perfectly possible. ⚠ THE TOUR IS PITCHED AT CHILDREN and an adult alone will find it thin - that is the honest description, not a criticism. Group and school visits are arranged in advance. Photography may be restricted in some manufacturing areas; staff will say at the start. ⚠ THE SHELBURNE MUSEUM IS 927 METRES UP THE SAME ROAD AND IS A FAR LARGER DESTINATION - if you have one day in Shelburne, spend it there.
