Waco Suspension Bridge

Historic Bridge · Waco, Texas

A single-span suspension bridge of 1870 over the Brazos, built when there was no bridge across the river for hundreds of miles and the Chisholm Trail had to ford it — for a time the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi. It carried cattle, wagons and traffic for over a century and now carries only people on foot.

100 Washington Avenue, Waco, Texas, 76701, United States

⚠ FREE, pedestrian-only, and open at all hours as a public footbridge — BUT ⚠ THE BRIDGE HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR EXTENDED RESTORATION WORK IN RECENT YEARS AND I COULD NOT VERIFY ITS CURRENT STATUS. Check with the City of Waco before making a special trip. The bronze cattle drive sculptures at the eastern approach and the riverwalk views are freely accessible regardless. ⚠ Go at dusk — the bridge is lit and the Brazos reflects it.
