Waikīkī Aquarium

Aquarium · Honolulu, Hawaii

An aquarium on the Waikiki shoreline founded in 1904 and part of the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 1919. It is the second-oldest still-operating public aquarium in the United States, after the New York Aquarium. It is small, it sits directly on the water beside a living reef, and its collections concentrate on Hawaiian and wider Pacific species - including chambered nautilus, which it was the first in the world to breed in captivity.

2777 Kalākaua Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96815, United States

Open daily with the last entry generally an hour before closing; closed on a small number of holidays. A modest admission applies with reduced rates for Hawaii residents, children and University of Hawaii students. ⚠ IT IS SMALL - considerably smaller than mainland aquariums people compare it to - and it is priced and paced accordingly. Metered street parking runs along Kalakaua Avenue and fills; walking from Waikiki takes minutes.
