Wailua River State Park

State Park · Wailua, Hawaii

A state park on the eastern side of Kauaʻi built around the Wailua River valley, which contains the only navigable river in Hawaii. It also takes in the Wailua Complex of Heiaus, a group of temple sites along the river that made this one of the most sacred districts in the islands. Visitors kayak, take riverboat cruises to the Fern Grotto, and reach waterfalls and lookouts by road; motorboats and water skiing are permitted on the river.

Kuamoo Road, Wailua, Hawaii, 96746, United States

The park areas and lookouts are open during daylight hours and are FREE. ⚠ COMMERCIAL RIVERBOAT CRUISES AND KAYAK HIRE RUN TO THEIR OWN SCHEDULES and are the usual way people get onto the water; book ahead in season. ⚠ KAYAKING ON THE WAILUA IS SUBJECT TO STATE RULES INCLUDING RESTRICTIONS ON WHICH DAYS SELF-GUIDED PADDLING IS PERMITTED - check the state parks page rather than a guidebook.
